Chemical properties: Colorless to pale yellow liquid, with a smell similar to fusel oil, strong refractive index, and hygroscopic. It is a component of many plant waxes. Slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ether, benzene, acetone and most organic solvents. pH 7(70g/L,H2O,20℃). Melting point -89℃. Boiling point: 116-119℃/760mmHg. Density ρ(20) : 0.808-0.814g/mL. Refractive index n20/D1.398-1.410. Flash point: 93.2℉/34℃.

Usage: It is also used as an extraction solvent and pigment diluent to separate potassium perchlorate and sodium perchlorate, and can also be used to separate sodium chloride and lithium chloride. Used for washing sodium zinc uranyl acetate precipitate; Arsenate is determined by the molybdate method in colorimetric determination.
